In the last year, CAO has helped navigate and support three families mourning maternal and newborn deaths in the refugee community. Just yesterday, an active volunteer in the Congolese community lost his newborn soon after his wife gave birth. In July, we worked diligently to connect a Bhutanese family to the adequate resources needed to lay their newborn to rest. Unfortunately, these stories are not unique. Building a life in the United States often means living below the poverty line with limited access to quality health services. While some families may qualify for funeral and burial assistance, this limited funding is often inadequate to ensure that a family's cultural and religious traditions are respected. Other families struggle to afford any memorial at all.
At CAO, we believe that human dignity matters, no matter how long a life.
In light of this most recent tragedy in our local community, we are turning to you for help. Join us today to connect refugee families to the resources they need in order to memorialize their children in a dignified and culturally appropriate manner.
