In many ways, Colorado’s African population remains invisible when it comes to representation in local government and policymaking. Although many members may have been active politically in their former countries and communities, and continue to monitor elections and developments in Africa, they fail to engage in any sort of civic action in America. Often, this is because they don’t understand the debates and political processes well enough to be involved.

The CAO Advocacy program helps them to find a common voice and stay informed on the major issues affecting their lives. Through assistance with voter registration, education on American political processes, and coordination with other African, immigrant, and refugee groups in Colorado and beyond, this program brings CAO members further into mainstream Colorado.
